Although trade unions have a bigger presence in the public sector they are also to be found in the private sector too and probably more so as the economy worsens. Being asked to look at recognition agreements is not necessarily a bad thing as having channels of communication can make for a more harmonious workplace.  See more information on trade union rights here.
