Whilst there is no UK legislation that specifically protects people from bullying at work, there are nevertheless a number of possible avenues of protection. There is protection from harassment under the Protection from Harassment Act and also in the law relating to sex, race and religious discrimination.
An employer has an obligation to provide a safe work place. If the level of bullying and harassment is such that the wellbeing of employees is compromised then that may well provide justification for a constructive dismissal case. However, the matter should be raised as a grievance first. ACAS produce useful guidance for employees on how to deal with bullying and harassment in the workplace which can be accessed here.
