Compromise Procedures

Very often an employer will offer an employee a sum of money as part and parcel of the ending of an employment relationship. It may be due to redundancy, but frequently the employer’s redundancy terms are more generous than the statutory redundancy terms and the employer will therefore require the employee to sign a compromise agreement.

Generally speaking, no employee can surrender their employment rights without advice from a qualified lawyer or a trade union official.

We often advise employees in this situation. If you have been offered a sum of money on the termination of your employment contract, we will be able to tell you whether this is fair and whether there are reasonable prospects for either securing a better settlement through bringing a Tribunal case or alternatively and more usually, negotiating a new deal with the employer.
