Elham in Business

The pretty village of Elham nestling in the North Downs between Folkestone and Canterbury is where Employment Relations have their main office. The village is only about 60 miles from London by road on either the A2 or M20. We have been able to set up in the village away from the hubbub of the city largely because of the advent of high speed internet access and changing patterns in the work life balance. Our carbon imprint is low as staff are either walking or cycling to work, or commuting short distances on traffic free roads. We also make use of an encrypted virtual private network to allow for home working and teleworking.

Because we believe that this is a business model that will become increasingly replicated over the coming years, Tony Bertin agreed to become the first Chairman of Elham in Business, an organisation put together by the local businesses to support and encourage the economic infrastructure of the area. Whilst our own clientele is spread throughout London and the South East as well as further reaches of the Country, the economy of the village essentially depends on the local spend. The organisation therefore has as its remit the promotion and development of the economic infrastructure and the encouragement of visitors to the area.

We have received invaluable assistance from Tourism South East as a model on the development of rural tourism and a great deal of effort is going into the improvement of footpaths, bridle ways and hopefully a Folkestone to Canterbury cycle path.
