30 June 2010 - Former NCP Services employee is awarded £80,000 more

A former NCP Services Ltd employee has been awarded an additional £80,000, a revision to the £162,042 compensation awarded to him at the Central London Employment Tribunal on 11 December 2008.

The company, now known as NSL Ltd following the demerger of the national car parking provider NCP into two separate businesses, lodged an unsuccessful appeal against the original decision. Geoff Topliss, of Canterbury, Kent, successfully cross appealed, saying that the tribunal had got its calculations wrong. At the hearing on 29 June 2010, the Central London Employment Tribunal revised its decision and awarded Mr Topliss the additional £80,000.

Mr Topliss was represented by Tony Bertin of Employment Relations Solicitors who said: “This represents a significant vindication for Mr Topliss who is delighted with this outcome.”

Mr Topliss won his case in December 2008 when he claimed he had been unfairly dismissed after alleging that NCP Services Ltd had defrauded the DVLA of over £1m.

Mr Bertin said his client was sacked from his job as National Operations Manager on 30 April 2007, because of “whistleblowing” disclosures he made regarding the contract between his employer and the DVLA. The tribunal decision and unsuccessful appeal by the company have vindicated that view. The contract involved NCP impounding and scrapping untaxed vehicles on behalf of the DVLA.
